The Historic Dockyard Chatham is open daily between February and November.

Our closing times vary with the seasons:

11 February 2023 – 26 March 2023: 10:00 to 16:00

27 March 2023– 29 October 2023: 10:00 to 17:00

31 October 2023 – 19 November 2023: 10:00 to 16:00

Galleries start to close 30 minutes before the site closes.

Please note, we recommend arriving before 15:00 to experience a full Dockyard day out.


The Historic Dockyard Chatham is accessible by a wide variety of routes whether you are arriving by car, boat or public transport. Please come through our main visitor entrance – via Western Avenue.

Please note the entrance at Main Gate – off Dock Road, is for tenants and residents only 

Arriving by Car & Coach

If you are using a satellite navigation system insert the postcode ME4 4TY.

Follow the Brown tourist signs (anchor) from Junctions 1, 3 and 4 of the M2 and Junction 6 of the M20.

We have plenty of car parking spaces with no height restrictions. Motorhomes are welcome but please note that these cannot be parked overnight.

There are dedicated parking bays for Blue Badge Holders. Simply follow the signs for visitor parking upon arrival.

Arriving by Train

Station: Chatham

The Historic Dockyard is within walking distance (20-30mins) of Chatham railway station which is regularly served by Southeastern High Speed travelling to/from London St Pancras as well regular services via London Victoria and Charing Cross. The railway station features on many local bus routes and taxi services are available too.

Arriving by Bus

The Historic Dockyard is served by a number of local bus services currently operated by Arriva buses.

For up-to-date information on local buses please visit the Arriva website and enter ‘Chatham Historic Dockyard’ as your destination.

Arriving by Boat

Visitors arriving by water are advised to berth at the nearby Chatham Maritime Marina, only a few minutes’ walk from The Historic Dockyard Chatham.

The marina provides the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area and welcomes frequent visitation from Holland only 80 miles away.
