Under the care of Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, The Historic Dockyard Chatham offers unrivalled access to a place that built magnificent ships which shaped the world, and the inspiring stories of the people who made them. It’s the most complete dockyard from the age of sail anywhere in the world.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is much more than a museum and heritage site – it’s a place where over 100 businesses have chosen to locate, that over 400 people call home and where over 600 people study with the University of Kent.

As a registered charity that employs over 140 people, the Trust aims to not only set the benchmark in maintaining excellence in the sympathetic preservation and use of The Historic Dockyard Chatham, its buildings, ships and collections through diverse re-use, but also to engage the widest possible audiences in learning about the significance and history of the former Royal Dockyard.

We are looking to recruit a Marketing Manager who can take our captivating stories, spanning over 400-years of maritime history, and deliver them to today’s diverse audiences in exciting and creative ways.


Financial Controller (Designate)

We are looking to appoint a new Financial Controller (Designate). The Financial Controller (Designate) is a vital part of a planned and open succession process, with the current postholder retiring in Summer 2024. The appointment of the Financial Controller (Designate) offers the opportunity to work alongside the Trust’s experienced and long-standing Financial Controller ensuring an extended process of handover and transition.


Security Officer Full Time

We are seeking motivated people to join our Security Team in a full time capacity. As a Security Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of Historic Dockyard Chatham’s historic estate, collections and the safety and welfare of customers, tenants, residents and visitors.


Security Officer (As Required)

We are currently seeking motivated people to join our Security Team in an as required role.

The successful applicant must be flexible and willing to work at short notice. They will be required to provide holiday and sickness cover as well as offering additional support for events and other onsite activities with no shortage of working opportunities.


Call the Midwife Location Tour Guide

Our Call the Midwife tour guides are key to ensuring that every visitor enjoys a safe and enjoyable experience. We aim to create a friendly environment with a positive attitude, a warm welcome and ongoing excellent customer care. The post involves working weekdays, weekends, evenings, Bank Holidays and occasional early mornings.

If you have exceptional customer service skills, relevant experience within a guided role, a passion for Call the Midwife and working with people, we would be delighted to hear from you.


Visitor Experience Assistant

Our Visitor Experience Assistants are key to ensuring that every visitor enjoys a safe and fantastic experience, from dealing with pre-visit information and helping to plan a perfect day out, to staffing our galleries and historic ships, our team is central to helping us achieve our charitable aims. Facilitating learning and gallery engagement our Visitor Experience Assistants help to animate our collection and the wider site, inspiring dialogue with our broad and varied audiences.

The Trust promotes an interdepartmental approach to working and all successful applicants will automatically form part of a Trust wide staffing pool with the opportunity to develop their skills and experience further.
